Adventuring Sydneyside: Sydney Festival

Ah, summertime in Sydney. Sunny, 70 degrees, and breezy. It sounds pretty sweet, right? I have to admit, it’s even sweeter knowing what I could be missing back home:

Why hello there, typical Boston winter!

Anyway, snowy thoughts aside, it has been lovely here and the beautiful weather sends Sydneysiders outside in droves. Lucky for us there is lots to do around the city in January and February. Right now the Sydney Festival in full swing which means that there is something going on just about everywhere you look.

'This is our city in summer', indeed!

Sydney Festival is a nearly month long program of events that range from dance to theatre to music, visual arts, and more. Events happen in just about every corner of the city, and there is pretty much always something on. Most events range in price, but there are several free events thrown in such as Festival First Night, a massive collection of events that takes place in multiple locations around the CBD to kick off the entire festival.

'SydFest' draws the crowds. Above: folks gather in The Domain to await Festival First Night entertainment.

This year’s festival began a week ago and wraps up on the 29th (just as this gets going!). Here are a few shots I took during a walk through the festivities on First Night. Enjoy!
